A bathyscope (sometimes called batiscope or aquascope), or caplet bezel, is an optical marine instrument, allowing, from the surface, to look underwater by eliminating the reflections and deformations induced by the wavelets and the refraction of the light on the water / air interface.
Consisting of a cylinder or a cone, closed at both ends by a window, and equipped with handles, it was formerly made of copper; it is found today in plastic.
It can be used for underwater photography at shallow depth.
